This puts me right back where I was 3 weeks ago :( It really sucks! But I will not give up. I will persevere!
Now onto the good news. I finished my 5K on Saturday and ran the whole way! It was so much fun and I felt so accomplished! Now for a little recap.
6:15 AM my alarm went off. I was not too excited about getting up so early, but was anxious for my race so I did jump right out of bed. I'm not a morning person at all! This was probably the hardest part of the whole day. I had all my race clothes set out and ready to put on the night before so I quickly got dressed and headed out to the kitchen to make this yummy breakfast. Oatmeal sweetened with a banana with peanut butter on top! YUM!!
We found parking right away and headed right to the Check In tables to pick up our packets (bibs, shirts, and flashy sunglasses). We headed back to the car to drop off our goodies and pin on our bibs. It was then that we asked a group of girls to take our picture.
The race course was in the fairgrounds so a lot of the course was on the grass. This made it even tougher than my normal runs. There were even spots where there were wholes in the ground! I also didn't have my music because I didn't want the "color" to ruin my phone or headphones. I have only run a couple of times without my music and during those times I talked with my friend. This made the run seem even harder. I just kept going, though.
Along the course there were different "color" stations. The first one was a wet spray of blue (I think). I kind of tried to dodge this one because it was already a little on the cool side outside (about 55-60 degrees) and I didn't need to get all wet to make me even cooler. The next one was the orange cornstarch and I veered off to the side to get some on me. I ended up with a little thrown at my right side kind of low. My shirt still didn't seem very colorful at this point. Then I came up to the pink station. This is one of my favorite colors so I slowed down and screamed for all the throwers to throw some on me. I think I got quite a bit on me in that station. WooHoo! Then there was a wet spray of green and I really wanted to get wet by then (I was really hot from all the running!) I think it was after the green where the water station was and I grabbed a bottle of water and tried to take a few little drinks while still running.
This is where my embarrassing moment took place. There was a gal and a guy running right ahead of me and the gal turns to the guy and asks, "Are you ok?" He says, "It's not me, it's her." and points back towards me. Well there is another gal running right next to me that is catching up with them and the first gal asks her, "Are you ok?" The second gal says, "Im fine. It's not me, it's her!" and she also points back at me. So at this point I need to own up to my obviously very heavy breathing and say, "It's me!" So the gal asks if I'm fine and I say that I am. I normally breathe heavy while running, but I think it was a bit off because I was trying to steady my breathing after taking those swigs of water, but I guess I am going to need to work on my breathing while running!
A while after this mishap, I catch up to one of my other friends that I knew was mainly walking and had started at the 9:00 AM wave. So I tell her that she needs to run. She asks to join me to the finish and I say, "Sure!" She was a real trooper and ran the whole way to the finish with me, too!
We were getting close to the finish and I see this big cloud of purple. I said to my friend, "Look, there is the finish! You're going to make it all the way!" and then I had a little burst of energy and I think I picked up a bit of speed. I ran right over to the left side and screamed (and acted all wild and crazy I'm sure) because I really wanted a lot of the purple on me. Well I got what I asked for...at least 2 of the 4 people throwing the color threw that purple cornstarch right at my face!
I went and met back up with my friend and her husband and we headed over towards the stage to join the final "color throw" Everybody got a small packet of colored cornstarch at the finish of the race and we all opened them and threw them up in the air together. A nice rainbow of color in the air!
We made one last stop at a booth that had these water bottles and it took forever to finally talk the guy into giving me one (my friend gave up) because he wanted us to show him on our phones that we "liked" his company on Facebook. Well I didn't have my phone on me because I didn't want it ruined and I didn't want to go to the car to pick it up and come back. Well I persevered and got my free water bottle!
